PEAK PRACTICE
Global magazine, UK. March 2006.

Protected by the Huascaran National Park, the mountain range of the Cordillera Blanca in Peru is a wonderland of ice-crusted peaks. Dominc Hamilton donned his fleece to see it for himself.

Geographical Magazine -
October 2005

As South America becomes an increasingly popular tourist destination, Dominic Hamilton gives a guided tour of some of Peru's outstanding natural and archaeological heritage.

Several of my earlier articles on Peru were tied to the anniversary of the South American Handbook, which celebrated its 80th birthday in 2003/4 — the longest-running guidebook in the English language.

The above article on the Handbook in Geographical (the magazine of the Royal Geographic Society), was published in the September 2003 issue. It mentioned various aspects of Peru's development over the years.

A second article appeared in the November 2003 issue Global in the UK. For the PDF (2Mb), go here. Another was in the Winter issue of South American Explorer in the US.

An article appeared on This Is Travel, the travel website of the Daily Mail and the London Evening Standard in October 2003, titled "Off the Beaten Inca Trail". Go here for that.

I'm also working on an article about the remarkable Cuzqueño photographer, Martin Chambi. That will appear some time soon in South American Explorer in the US. In the meantime, you can view some of Chambi's beautiful shots of Cuzco and the land of the Incas at this site.

A further article on Peru appeared in Global in the UK in May 2004. It's my favourite of all (I think!). Text here.

GUIDEBOOKS

In Oct/Nov 2004, I spent two weeks in Peru, updating chapters of the Footprint Peru Handbook. I updated Arequipa, Colca and Cotahuasi in the south, as well as Chiclayo in the north. The new edition was published in early 2005.

In September 2005, I updated the Northern Peru chapter of the Fodor's Peru guide. The new edition was published in early 2006.

I'm currently working on the Intelliguides material for Peru, as well contributing various chapters to the forthcoming first edition of DK Eyewitness Peru.
